Future derby jacket! Excited to get my patches put on and embroidered. And, it’s a washable (and non-animal product) version of the old school letterman jackets. Ebay, you are good to me.

Suzy Hotrod, from Gotham Girls Roller Derby, talks about how it feels to be representing the sport and her anticipation for the ESPN Launch Party.
“This revolution has summoned the inner athletes in women of all ages from all over the world to play a full contact sport in roller skates just for the love of it. That sounds almost too crazy to be true. It has changed our lives. We are fearless and dedicated to something that is our own.”
Wow.
Yes, I bought these. Never know when I will wear them. Maybe with everything. 2011 was/is my year of embracing my feminine side… even if I do play roller derby. Who says I can’t still be a lady? :)
That awkward moment when you undress, look at yourself in the mirror, and think, “I look like a dalmation… Or a meth addict who’s sugar daddy beats her.”
It was sprung on Mindy and I last minute; our skills test. Coach told us that we would be taking it after the bout this past Saturday, but we were not really sure when. Waking up to an email saying it was today had my heart in my butt.
The big thing I was worried about was 25 laps around the track in 5 minutes. Endurance training is not something that is done a whole lot, and tonight kicked my butt.
It all went pretty smoothly. Although, I did not get my 25 laps, I still did fairly well. I managed to get 23.5 done in 5 minutes. I will work hard for the next few weeks, and then try again.
I felt like a fish out of water after I pushed through it. My lungs were not cooperating with the short breaths I was taking. It was painful. I really thought something bad was going to happen. My ribs hurt, I couldn’t take a big breath, and was starting to feel nauseous. It was a really eye opening feeling. I am OUT of shape big time.
I remember being so active when I was younger, and need to get back to that level. Swimming is something I miss and KNOW will help build my lung capacity again. There are a few pools here in town, but apparently memberships are a little pricey, but I am going to look into it.
I passed everything else, we just have to work on pack stuff at the next practice, and then we are done. Besides having to do my laps again.
Immediately after our skills test was practice. I stayed. Practiced. Coach decided that we would do endurance! YIPPEE. It had to be tonight. Of course. I sourced it. It went well though. I did everything, slower, but did it. Now, to get Coach to insert at least 30 minutes of endurance into EVERY practice, and not just once a month or so, our team will benefit. Especially with this Santa Cruz Hellcats bout coming up. They are a pack team, and once they have control of it, it’s over. So, as long as we stay in control and keep our stamina up, we should have a great bout.
Well, my body hates me right now, Advil and Arnica seem to not want to aid to my aches either. I am going to try and sleep… I know tomorrow will be… fantastic.
Roller derby bout attire. H&M top, payless sandals, leggings, and rink keys around my neck which makes for a heavy accessory.
Rollergirl name: New Pound Glory
Story behind your name: I’m a huge New Found Glory fan - I was a 90s kid, so I’ve been a pop-punk kid ever since and I’m not ashamed! My derby wife screamed it at me while we were outdoor skating.. I was wearing my NFG concert tee, and she was falling down a hill….
LOVE THIS. Bri, I think you will agree.
Paused in the parade for a photo op. Note my “loin cloth” made from a bandanna. Also, my fringed mock leg-warmers that I made in 2 minutes, no joke.
The three of us that actually showed up for the parade this morning. All ready to go! Skated uphill a little, in the sun. Definitely different than a flat track in a hot building. It was a LOT of fun. Had some gentlemen hand us beers, which we saved until after the parade (besides the one I downed right before our float took off). We perfected the Princess Wave.
Elbow. Elbow. Wrist. Wrist. Pat your pearls. Blow a kiss.
So much fun.
Day, still not over.
